I recently spent a couple of days with the very talented Anavae, directing their new music video. The two day shoot started down in Alton, Hampshire at the absolutely enormous Black Hangar Studios. We arrived to some of the remaining debris from the previous shoot in the 32,000 square foot sound stage – a National Geographic documentary that had been in residence for the previous 6 weeks – and set up for the band shots. Anavae were keen to create a very contemporary, sci-fi look that used the space effectively, so we pumped the hangar full of smoke and light and started rolling.
The second day of the shoot began in London as we arrived at Google’s HQ, having booking into the new YouTube film studios there. In contrast to the previous day’s shoot, the studio shots were an incredibly simple setup, with a single, gridded light placed high and centred in front of a black seamless background. Soon, the talent for the day began to arrive – dancers, actors, models and artists – who would all add a little of their personality and intrigue to the video.
